The US military has used almost all of its ground-launched long-range precision missiles in the war against Iran, according to three people familiar with the data who spoke to Reuters.
The missiles are primarily Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). Two sources said the US has used “almost all” of these weapons. One source said the military was able to reload from supplies elsewhere in the world.
A CSIS report noted that PrSM stocks were already low, and that about 65% of Patriot interceptors had been used between February and July. THAAD interceptor numbers were at least 38% lower than at the start of the war. One source said nearly half of the Tomahawk cruise missile supply was also exhausted.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the US military “has everything it needs” to execute operations. President Trump stated the US had “far more munitions than anyone in the world.”
Sources expressed concern that depleting stocks could limit deterrence against Russia and China. One source said the drawdown reflected a decision to avoid riskier piloted bombing missions.
Some media reported Trump decided against another major Iran offensive partly due to stockpile warnings, but a US official disputed this, saying Gulf state pressure was the reason.
