Two Palestinian teenagers were killed on Wednesday night in the West Bank village of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The ministry identified the dead as Omar Mohammad Naji al-Nassan, 19, and Khalil Rassem Khalil Shahada, 16, and said they were shot by Israeli forces. The Palestinian Red Crescent said al-Nassan was shot in the neck and Shahada in the back before being taken to hospitals in Ramallah, where they died.
Village council head Amin Abu Alia told AFP that Israeli settlers tried to steal sheep from two homes, leading to a confrontation. He said the army surrounded the village and snipers opened fire on residents who tried to resist the settlers.
The Israeli military said it secured entry to the village to enable the return of cattle belonging to Israeli civilians that was found nearby. It said violent riots broke out, during which 'terrorists' hurled concrete blocks and stones at troops. The army said forces responded with fire at main instigators to remove the threat and that the incident was under review.
The killings bring to 27 the number of Palestinians killed by settler gunfire since the start of the year, and to 63 since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
