Russian Ballistic Strikes on Kyiv Kill Nine, Lithuania Embassy Damaged

At least nine people died and many more were injured when Russian forces launched 35 missiles and 185 drones at Ukraine overnight targeting Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. According to his statement, 27 of the missiles were ballistic, and damage was also reported in Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that a barrage of ballistic missiles hit the capital, sparking fires and leaving some areas without power. A residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district partially collapsed, trapping people inside. In the Darnytskyi district, emergency services reported seven dead and 14 injured, while in Solomyanskyi two were killed and eight hurt, including two children.

One missile landed near the Lithuanian embassy, breaking windows and scattering debris. Lithuania’s foreign ministry said it would summon the Russian representative and seek compensation. A separate report from Poland’s foreign ministry condemned the attack as a brutal act of violence against civilians and expressed solidarity with Ukraine and Lithuania.

Ukrainian patrol police stated that a 22-year-old officer, Yehor Terekhin, was killed during a follow-up strike while helping people. Separately, Zelensky announced that Ukrainian drone forces sank the Russian-flagged container ship Yanina, owned by Rosatom, about 130 miles from Novorossiysk. Its crew of 17 was rescued and in satisfactory condition, according to Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, who called the sinking piracy. The ship reportedly carried frozen food and construction materials.
