Russian missile and drone barrage kills at least nine in Kyiv

Russia launched a massive overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv, killing at least nine people, with some sources citing ten fatalities, and wounding at least 33, including children. The assault struck multiple districts, with the highest casualties reported in Darnytskyi and Solomianskyi.

A five-storey residential building in Solomianskyi was hit by falling debris, sparking a fire. Emergency services evacuated 35 residents from upper floors; two people died there and eight were wounded, according to Ukraine’s state emergency service. In Darnytskyi, seven were killed and 14 injured, with fires damaging homes, vehicles, and a non-residential building.

Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that two munitions landed near its embassy in the Pechersk district—about 5 and 150 metres from the wall—causing damage to the building and endangering staff. Lithuania protested to Russia and said it would demand compensation under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The attack also damaged the main mosque of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Ummah” for the third time in just over a year. Mufti Murat Suleymanov said the site, a civilian place of worship with no nearby military targets, had previously been struck in summer 2025 and again on 2 July.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported fires and damage to 18 residential buildings, a school, the Lithuanian embassy, and infrastructure across seven Kyiv districts. He renewed calls for more Patriot anti-ballistic missile interceptors, warning that every night without them leads to more casualties.
